The Martyrdom of Journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Muhammad Qareeqi Due to Bombing of Journalists' Tent in Gaza City
SadaNews - Journalists were martyred and injured due to an Israeli bombing that directly targeted a journalists' tent in front of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City just before midnight on Sunday.
Local sources reported the martyrdom of members of the Al Jazeera crew, namely: Anas Al-Sharif, Muhammad Qareeqi, and photographers Ibrahim Zaher, Moamen Aliwa, and Muhammad Nofal.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression confirmed that "the number of journalists killed in the Gaza Strip exceeds that of any other conflict."
The director of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza confirmed, "The martyrdom of Al Jazeera reporters Anas Al-Sharif and Muhammad Qareeqi was due to an Israeli bombing on their tent."
Local sources stated that "journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Muhammad Qareeqi have been martyred, and others were injured due to the occupation's targeting of their tent in Gaza City."
Palestinian media confirmed that the Israeli bombing "targeted a tent for journalists in front of the main entrance of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex."
**The Occupation Acknowledges Its Crime and Justifies It**
The Israeli occupation army acknowledged that it directly targeted journalists, stating in a statement that it "recently attacked Anas Al-Sharif in the Gaza City area," claiming that the martyred journalist "was disguised in the attire of a journalist for Al Jazeera."
The statement alleged that the martyr Al-Sharif "was a commander of a cell in Hamas and was facilitating plans to launch rockets at Israeli civilians and the Israeli army." It indicated that "he had previously revealed intelligence information and numerous documents found in the Gaza Strip, confirming his military affiliation with Hamas. These documents reaffirm his activities that Al Jazeera tried to disavow."
According to the Israeli army, "the documents include employee schedules, lists of 'terrorist' training courses, a phone directory, and payroll documents, which conclusively prove that he worked on behalf of Hamas in the Gaza Strip."
The two reporters have not ceased reporting from Gaza since the war started due to the ongoing Israeli bombardment of the strip for the last 22 months.
Al-Sharif was among the first journalists to move to bombed areas to convey the situation and reality moment by moment, particularly from the northern regions, and the same applies to Qareeqi.
