The President Makes a Phone Call to His Turkish Counterpart

SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas made a phone call today, Saturday, to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The president expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for Turkey's steadfast political positions in support of the Palestinian cause, and the ongoing humanitarian assistance provided by the Republic of Turkey to our Palestinian people, especially in light of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions they are facing in the Gaza Strip.

The president praised Turkey's honorable positions in rejecting attempts to displace our Palestinian people, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination between the two countries to confront these Israeli policies that violate international legitimacy and international law.

He stated that the grave decision taken by the Israeli occupation government to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its inhabitants to the south is a new crime added to the series of Israeli crimes in the West Bank including Jerusalem, stressing the necessity of working to stop it immediately.

The president added that the Palestinian leadership will continue political engagement at all levels, including approaching the United Nations Security Council, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to gather international and regional positions against these plans.

He emphasized the importance of empowering the State of Palestine to assume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, the necessity of an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages and prisoners, the entry of humanitarian aid, and allowing the State of Palestine to take over security responsibilities with Arab and international support, along with the withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, ensuring the unity of governance, law, and legitimate arms under the umbrella of the state.

For his part, President Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey's firm positions in supporting the Palestinian people and their steadfastness on their land, and that Turkey will continue its efforts on all fronts to achieve a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid, noting that he has had communications with many world leaders to discuss the seriousness of the Israeli decision to expand the war and reoccupy the Gaza Strip, stressing that the Israeli decision can never be accepted.

The Turkish president clarified that his country supports the Palestinian request for an urgent session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the ministerial level to discuss the serious Israeli decisions, pointing out that Turkey has submitted an urgent request to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to convene the session urgently as it holds the presidency of the current session of the organization.
