EU: Israel Fails to Meet Agreement on Increased Aid to Gaza

SadaNews - The European Union’s diplomatic service stated that Israel has not fully complied with the agreement made with the EU regarding the increase of aid supplies to civilians in Gaza.

A document sent by the European External Action Service to EU member states, and seen by the German News Agency today, Thursday, noted that the number of trucks entering the devastated coastal enclave during the period from July 29 to August 4 remains "below the agreed figure" with the European Union in mid-July.

Israel reached an agreement with Brussels last month to increase aid to Gaza following significant pressure from European countries.

However, according to the United Nations and relief organizations, Israel continues to obstruct humanitarian operations and the delivery of aid, as stated in the document from the European External Action Service.

The document added: "There is a degree of disparity between the figures provided by the United Nations and humanitarian organizations and those provided by Israel."

The document pointed to some positive steps taken, with fuel supplies resuming after a previous disruption lasting 130 days, as well as aid delivery routes being reopened through Egypt and Jordan and the Zikim border crossing in northern Gaza. Additionally, some critical infrastructure facilities have been repaired.

Nevertheless, the document warned that the risk of famine remains a reality for the two million Palestinians living in Gaza.
