Human Rights Watch: Occupation Bombed 500 Schools in Gaza Since October 2023
SadaNews: Human Rights Watch stated that Israeli forces have bombed more than 500 schools in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, most of which were housing displaced persons, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, including children and women.
It noted that 92% of schools in the Gaza Strip require complete reconstruction or major rehabilitation work to be fit for use again.
The international human rights organization asserted that Israeli attacks on schools are "illegal regardless of the justifications provided," pointing out that Israel carried out double strikes targeting schools, as well as ambulance crews that were trying to save the victims.
Human Rights Watch added that the attacks were indiscriminate in many cases and used American-made munitions.
The organization has called for an independent international investigation into these attacks and for holding those responsible accountable under international humanitarian law.
