Ben Gvir Demands Chief of Staff to Declare Compliance with Orders to Occupy Gaza
SadaNews - Israeli far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stated that the Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, must clearly demonstrate that he will fully comply with political level orders, even if it is decided to occupy the Gaza Strip.
Israel is currently witnessing disagreements between the political and military sides, as Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported from sources that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to expand the military operation in the Gaza Strip to include all areas, including those that may contain prisoners.
However, sources indicate that the Chief of Staff may resign if the plan to occupy the territory is implemented.
Today, Tuesday, the eyes of political and security circles in Israel are turned towards the expected meeting of the Israeli government, during which the Chief of Staff of the occupation army, Eyal Zamir, is expected to present an assessment of the cost of continuing the long-term Israeli military presence in the Gaza Strip.
According to what was reported by "Yedioth Ahronoth," Israeli sources said that Zamir strongly opposes implementing a new ground maneuver or adopting an additional expansion plan within the strip, asserting that such a step would drain the army's forces without achieving tangible results.
Military estimates indicate that carrying out an intensive combat operation in Gaza could extend for months and would require the involvement of at least six combat brigades in Hamas strongholds west of Gaza City, which are areas that have not seen Israeli military activity for nearly a year.
