Chinese Ambassador to Palestine: We Call for a Just Solution to the Palestinian Cause and Support the Outcomes of the New York Conference
SadaNews - Today, Thursday, the Chinese ambassador to the State of Palestine, Cheng Jixin, stated that his country supports a just solution to the Palestinian issue and the outcomes of the international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian cause and the implementation of the two-state solution, held earlier this week at the United Nations in New York.
He added in a press conference held at the Chinese embassy in Ramallah that his country supports a just solution to the Palestinian issue, emphasizing that there must be pressure to reach a comprehensive ceasefire to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, urging the involved parties to intervene for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza. He called on Israel to fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, restore aid to Gaza, and support the United Nations and international institutions in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza. He urged the Security Council to take all necessary measures to end the worst humanitarian crises of modern times.
He indicated that Gaza and the West Bank should be managed by the Palestinians, as they are an integral part of Palestinian territory, stating that changing the status of Gaza by force and annexing the West Bank will not bring peace. China rejects any actions that violate international law, opposes the construction of settlements, and supports the Arab plan for managing Gaza. Furthermore, it supports the Palestinian Authority in managing both the West Bank and Gaza, and it is committed to providing whatever is necessary for the reconstruction of Gaza.
He clarified that Palestine should be supported to enhance its internal unity, strengthen its governance capacity, and enhance economic resilience. China supports the Palestinian Authority in enhancing its influence and effectively performing its duties. Last July, China hosted a meeting of factions, leading to the signing of the Beijing Declaration. Additionally, China provides various aid and training to Palestine and is ready to work with the international community to continue delivering assistance and support to Palestine.
The Chinese ambassador pointed out that the momentum for peace must be maintained to implement the two-state solution, asserting that China supports the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He urged for Palestine to be accepted as a permanent member of the United Nations and urged countries not to impose obstacles to this recognition, also calling on non-recognizing countries to recognize Palestine swiftly.
He stated that the concept of permanent and collective security must be upheld to achieve peace in the Middle East, emphasizing that the Palestinian issue is the core of the Middle Eastern concerns. China believes that Middle Eastern countries are interconnected, and a unilateral solution will not succeed. There must be guarantees for the legitimate rights of Palestine to exist, establish a state, develop, and achieve peace, stability, and mutual prosperity. China is willing to work with the international community to play a constructive role in calming the situation in the region.
Regarding economic support for the Palestinian National Authority, which is under financial siege, the Chinese ambassador said that Chinese support is not limited to the political sphere but also extends to humanitarian and development areas. One can see the Chinese footprint throughout Palestine, including Beijing Street, the China School, and the Palestinian-Chinese Friendship Square. China provides developmental projects to the Palestinian people and humanitarian assistance, especially to Gaza, where it has delivered 4 batches of urgent humanitarian aid worth 100 million Chinese yuan. This year, it announced new batches amounting to 500 million Chinese yuan to alleviate the suffering in Gaza. However, some of this aid has not reached due to Israeli obstacles, and we seek to deliver it through Egypt, Jordan, and UN organizations, ensuring that we continue on this path to provide more aid based on the evolving situation and the needs of the Palestinian people.
Concerning settlements in the West Bank, he said: "I have visited most governorates of the West Bank and understand the situation on the ground in Palestine, witnessing home demolitions, the violence of settlers, and the Judaization of Jerusalem. China, alongside the majority of the international community, rejects these actions entirely, and the acts of settlers do not bring peace. Therefore, China has proposed the initiative for common public security, which entirely rejects unilateral security efforts."
