Within 24 Hours.. 7 Deaths Due to Famine and Malnutrition in the Gaza Strip
SadaNews - The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced today, Wednesday, that 7 citizens have died due to famine and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, including one child, in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 154, including 89 children.
According to a warning issued by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification on Tuesday, the Gaza Strip is facing a severe risk of famine, as food consumption and nutrition indicators have reached their worst levels since the beginning of the current war.
The report indicated that two of the three thresholds of famine have been exceeded in parts of the Gaza Strip, with warnings from the World Food Program and UNICEF that time is running out to launch a comprehensive humanitarian response.
A joint press statement from UN agencies noted that "the ongoing conflict, the collapse of essential services, and severe restrictions on the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid imposed on the United Nations have all led to catastrophic food security conditions for hundreds of thousands of people throughout the Gaza Strip."
Gaza is experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in its history, as severe famine intertwines with a genocidal war waged by Israel since October 7, 2023.
Since March 2, 2025, Israel has closed all crossings with the Gaza Strip, preventing the entry of most food and medical aid, resulting in a famine outbreak within the region.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) had warned that malnutrition among children under five has doubled between March and June as a result of the ongoing blockade.
The World Health Organization confirmed that malnutrition rates in Gaza have reached alarming levels, and that the deliberate blockade and delays in aid have caused countless deaths, with nearly one in five children under five in Gaza City suffering from acute malnutrition.
