The President Welcomes the New York Call for Recognition of the State of Palestine: A Historic Step

SadaNews - President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas expressed his high appreciation and welcome for the New York call issued by the Foreign Ministers of Andorra, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, and Spain, which affirmed their recognition of the State of Palestine and the willingness of the countries that have not yet recognized it to do so.

The President praised the brave positions of these friendly countries that affirmed their commitment to the two-state solution and peace based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, reiterating his commitment to what he pledged in order to implement this.

President Abbas emphasized that the recognition of the State of Palestine by these countries, or their declaration of positive readiness to recognize the State of Palestine, represents a historic step towards achieving just and comprehensive peace, and enhances international efforts to end the Israeli occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He called on other countries to join this call and contribute to advancing the political process based on the two-state solution, ensuring security and stability for all peoples of the region.

On another note, President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the success achieved by the International Peace Conference in New York.

He appreciated the New York Declaration regarding the peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, which was issued by the co-presidency of the conference, namely the French Republic and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The President expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the sincere efforts made by the co-presidency, France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in all stages of preparation, coordination, and holding this historic conference, extending thanks to the United Nations Secretary-General and the General Secretariat staff, as well as to the countries that chaired the working groups and actively participated by presenting working papers that were included and announced.

He also valued the positions of the participating countries in the conference sessions, which during their speeches confirmed their support for just and comprehensive peace, reflecting a united international will to end the occupation, achieve the two-state solution, and recognize the State of Palestine, and their emphasis on the priority of ending the war, accelerating humanitarian aid, stopping starvation and blockade, preventing displacement, and restoring full responsibilities to the State of Palestine, the withdrawal of occupation forces, moving towards reconstruction, halting settlement activities and settler violence, and taking irreversible steps to end the occupation and embody the independent Palestinian state within a specified timeframe.

The President reinforced the utmost importance of the results yielded by the conference and the necessity of following them up seriously, stressing his complete confidence that the specific steps that were announced will come into effect and that this conference, with its diplomatic movement and political dynamics, will have tangible positive results on the path to ending the occupation and establishing the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, while expressing his gratitude to the countries that expressed their intention to recognize the State of Palestine and calling on other countries to do so.
