15 Countries Call for Collective Recognition of the State of Palestine

SadaNews - The French Foreign Minister stated that 15 countries are making a collective call to recognize the State of Palestine, urging more nations to join them.

Meanwhile, Canadian media reported, citing a government source, that Canada is considering the possibility of recognizing the Palestinian state if Israel refuses to cease hostilities in Gaza.

Public broadcaster "CBC" and other media outlets quoted the same source saying that no decision has been made yet on this matter, and discussions are ongoing about whether recognition of the Palestinian state would be conditional.

The source added that Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to hold a remote Cabinet meeting today, Wednesday, to discuss the situation in the Middle East.

He noted that Carney had a phone call yesterday, Tuesday, with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which they discussed Starmer's announcement regarding potential recognition of an independent Palestinian state and the situation in Gaza.

Starmer stated yesterday, Tuesday, that his country would recognize the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly next September unless Israel takes concrete steps to allow aid into Gaza, commits to a two-state solution, and refrains from annexing the West Bank.

Starmer's announcement came just days after a similar statement from French President Emmanuel Macron, which has drawn Israeli and American condemnation.

While attending a two-state solution conference in New York on Monday, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand asserted that the Palestinian issue is at the heart of any hope for establishing long-term stability in the Middle East, according to Canadian public broadcaster.

Anand added that an effective Palestinian state requires democratic governance representing the entire Palestinian people.

Last week, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney strongly criticized the way Israel is handling the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing it as a violation of international law, as reported by "CTV News" Canada.
