British Prime Minister Decides to Recognize the State of Palestine

SadaNews - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer informed his government on Tuesday, according to a government statement, that Britain will recognize the State of Palestine in September unless the Israeli government takes substantial steps to end the "horrific situation" in Gaza and meets other conditions.

The statement added: "The United Kingdom will recognize the State of Palestine in September unless the Israeli government takes substantial steps to end the horrific situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, clarifies that there will be no annexation in the West Bank, and commits to a long-term peace process that achieves a two-state solution."

He reiterated that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas, and that Britain's demands from Hamas remain in place, which are the release of all hostages, agreeing to a ceasefire, accepting that it will play no role in the Gaza government, and disarming.

He emphasized that the possibility of a two-state solution is diminishing day by day, stating: "We want to ensure that aid enters Gaza and guarantees a future two-state solution."

Starmer made this decision after calling his government during the summer holiday on Tuesday to discuss a proposed new peace plan being worked on with other European leaders, and how to deliver more humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Earlier in the day, Starmer noted that he discussed the situation in Gaza with U.S. President Donald Trump, and both expressed concern about the deteriorating and worsening situation day by day.

He stressed the need to bring aid into the Gaza Strip in large quantities and quickly.

He saw the announcement of the possibility of recognizing the State of Palestine as aimed at changing the situation on the ground.

International newspapers confirmed this morning that Britain is close to recognizing a Palestinian state under significant internal pressure due to the famine in Gaza.
