German Ambassador Condemns Settlers' Attack on Taybeh: "Criminals Who Disgust All Religions"
SadaNews: The German ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert, criticized the settlers' attack that occurred on the village of Taybeh, east of Ramallah, early Monday morning.
The ambassador commented on the settlers' attack by saying, according to SadaNews' translation: "Whether they attack a Christian village or Palestinian Muslim pastoral communities, these extremist settlers may claim that God granted them the land. But in reality, they are criminals who disgust all religions."
This came just hours after the German government called during a meeting held yesterday for an immediate ceasefire and urgent improvement of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, stating: "If the situation in Gaza does not improve significantly, we are prepared to increase pressure on the Israeli side."
Settlers attacked the town of Taybeh early Monday morning, burning two vehicles and spray-painting racist slogans on the walls.
This attack came just 10 days after a visit made by the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, to the town of Taybeh, to assess the conditions there following the settlers' assaults on it.
On June 4, settlers established a new colonial outpost on the ruins of a Palestinian family's homes that were forcibly evacuated about a year ago after a series of violent attacks in the town of Taybeh.
On July 7, settlers set fire near the historic St. George's (Al-Khidr) Church and cemetery in the town, provoking widespread church and international reactions, which condemned the settlers' attacks on holy sites and places of worship.
