Trump sees signs of "real famine" in Gaza... agrees with Starmer on the need for a ceasefire
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the United States will establish "food distribution centers" in the Gaza Strip to help avert a worsening hunger crisis, stating that his country will work with other nations to provide more humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.
Trump told reporters in Scotland, where he is meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer: "We will establish food distribution centers where people can come in without restrictions. We will not impose barriers," emphasizing that he sees indicators of a "real famine" in Gaza, and that this cannot be disputed.
The U.S. president noted that dealing with the Hamas movement has become difficult in recent days, and mentioned that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about "different plans" for freeing the hostages who are still held in the Strip, indicating that there are Israelis who prefer the return of the hostages.
For his part, Starmer stated that he agrees with Trump on the absence of any role for Hamas in governing Gaza. He confirmed that the entry of trucks into the Gaza Strip is the only means to bring in sufficient aid.
Starmer said he also agreed with Trump on the necessity of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, noting that they discussed a plan regarding what will happen after the delivery of aid.
Earlier today, Trump mentioned that he would talk with Starmer about the situation in Gaza. He added in press statements that other countries must play a role concerning humanitarian aid.
Trump believed that Hamas is not ready for negotiations and does not want to release the hostages. He also confirmed that reaching an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza is possible.
For his part, Starmer said that the situation in Gaza is dire and that the British people are very angry about it.
Additionally, Dave Paris, spokesperson for the British Prime Minister, stated that Starmer will propose a peace plan for the Gaza Strip during his meeting with the U.S. president.
Paris added in statements to reporters in London that Starmer's plan aims to provide immediate humanitarian relief on the ground in Gaza, in addition to setting a path for the implementation of a two-state solution.
The spokesperson clarified that Starmer will discuss his plan regarding Gaza with his government and international allies, including Arab countries, in the coming days.
