The President Appreciates the Statements of the British Prime Minister Regarding the Palestinian State
SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas praised the statements made by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in which he affirmed that statehood is an inalienable right of the Palestinian people.
The President commended Starmer’s remarks highlighting the magnitude of the humanitarian suffering and famine faced by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, as well as his call to immediately cease the killings and deliver urgent humanitarian aid, aiming to halt displacement that Britain utterly rejects. He emphasized that a ceasefire would place the United Kingdom on a path towards recognizing the State of Palestine and implementing the two-state solution that ensures peace and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
The President stated: Based on this principled position consistent with international legitimacy and international law, we call on the Government of the United Kingdom for official and immediate recognition of the State of Palestine, which would mark a historic step contributing to strengthening Britain’s moral and legal commitments and paving the way for a just and lasting peace in the region.
In this context, President Mahmoud Abbas urged the nations of the world that have not recognized the State of Palestine to do so, affirming the importance of Palestine obtaining full membership in the United Nations.
