Macron to "President Abbas": We have decided to recognize the State of Palestine
SadaNews - French President Emmanuel Macron announced this evening, Thursday, his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
Macron clarified in a message to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that this will be announced at the UN General Assembly meeting next September.
He stated: Based on our historical commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine.
He emphasized that the urgent need today is to end the war in Gaza and save civilians.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Vice President Hussein Sheikh expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Macron's announcement in a tweet on the platform X.
Sheikh thanked Saudi Arabia for the significant effort it made with France to recognize the State of Palestine.
He stated: This position represents France's commitment to international law and France's support for the rights of the Palestinian people to determine their fate and establish their independent state.
