Mustafa: The catastrophic and deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is no longer bearable
SadaNews - Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa stated, "The catastrophic and deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is no longer bearable. Humanitarian aid is important today, but our people in Gaza need more than just humanitarian assistance; they want freedom, dignity, and a future."
This was during his speech at the high-level coordination meeting in the government operations room for emergency interventions (southern governorates) on Thursday, aimed at rallying more pressure to stop the war of extermination and starvation, enhance relief efforts, and mobilize more international funding for UN relief institutions, in the presence of several members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from UN and relief institutions, and ministers and members of the operations room.
The Prime Minister added, "We cannot let down our people in the Gaza Strip amid the difficult humanitarian conditions they are experiencing. We expect the international community to provide more humanitarian and relief support, and additional and intensified efforts to stop the war of extermination and starvation, open crossings, and deliver aid to meet urgent humanitarian needs."
For his part, the European Union representative in Palestine, Alexander Stutzmann, said, "I would like to remind everyone of the public statements made by European leaders, who stated that the situation in the Gaza Strip must change. The High Representative confirmed in her dialogue with all concerned parties that all options are on the table as long as the commitments made, including by Israel, are not fulfilled."
Stutzmann added, "The Humanitarian Aid Office and UN organizations are working on the ground and monitoring continuously. The relevant bodies in the EU are in constant contact with the humanitarian organizations operating on the ground in the Gaza Strip to verify the amount of aid, resume bakery operations, ensure the necessary fuel reaches the region, and the importance of opening crossings. Although some improvements have occurred, they have not been sufficient."
The OCHA representative also explained the obstacles and logistical complexities, along with the occupation's measures that hinder and obstruct the adequate arrival of aid to the region.
The meeting participants from various countries and UN and relief institutions emphasized the need for concerted efforts and the enhancement of relief activities in Gaza in coordination with the Palestinian government and the government operations room for emergency interventions.
