Senior Security Official: Israel Needs the "Collapse of the Palestinian Authority"
Sada News Translation - An Israeli senior security official presented a concerning picture of the situation in the West Bank, stating in an interview with Channel 14 that "if Israel does not see the Palestinian Authority as a future government entity, it should work on dismantling it and finding a suitable alternative. We are mired in a specific concept in the West Bank, and things could turn upside down at any moment."
The senior official added according to Sada News translation that if the State of Israel does not consider the Palestinian Authority a future government entity, it must formulate a clear alternative and work to topple it, as he expressed.
He pointed out that it is only a matter of time until a major armed incident occurs in the West Bank that necessitates such actions.
Channel 14 reported that "the Palestinian Authority supports popular resistance, a term that sometimes includes acts of violence such as throwing stones and Molotov cocktails. Additionally, the Palestinian Authority provides financial rewards to prisoners with high sentences and the families of 'martyrs', which encourages armed action instead of preventing it."
It added, according to Sada News translation, "These payments represent an economic incentive for armed activity, particularly for Palestinian prisoners accused of killing Israelis and who have been in prisons for many years."
In an assessment of the situation in the West Bank, the Minister of the Occupation Army, Israel Katz, stated last night that as far as the West Bank is concerned, the offensive policy in the refugee camps in the northern West Bank has proven effective, and the Israeli army will remain in these camps.
Katz instructed the occupation army to prepare for "military operations" in additional camps if necessary, should armed hotspots emerge there.
