Iranian Helicopter Warns American Destroyer in the Sea of Oman
SadaNews - The Tasnim agency reported that an Iranian army helicopter warned an American destroyer after it approached Iranian territorial waters in the Sea of Oman.
The agency clarified that the American destroyer "USS Fitzgerald" attempted to get close to Iranian territorial waters at 10 AM local time today, and the Iranian army responded by sending a helicopter from the naval forces in the third region, which warned the American destroyer and asked it to move away.
It mentioned that the destroyer threatened to target the Iranian helicopter and demanded that it leave the area, but the Iranian pilot continued his mission and reiterated the warning to stay away from Iranian waters.
The agency pointed out that after the repeated threats from the American destroyer, the Iranian army's air defense system intervened and issued a decisive warning confirming that the helicopter was under full protection from air defense forces, and that the American vessel was obliged to change its course.
It clarified that the American destroyer ultimately complied and moved away from Iranian territorial waters.
The USS Fitzgerald was commissioned in 1995, participated in the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and is 154 meters long.
This incident comes after weeks of American strikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites, as part of a major attack initiated by Israel that targeted nuclear sites along with a number of military leaders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded by targeting various sites in Israel with ballistic missiles.
