The United Nations Reiterates Its Call for Safe and Sustainable Humanitarian Aid Delivery to the Gaza Strip
SadaNews - The United Nations has renewed its call for the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid, pointing to the increasing number of people suffering from malnutrition in the Gaza Strip.
UN spokesperson Stefan Dujarric said during a press conference last night, "Amid the bombardment, displacement, and destruction in Gaza, reports continue to emerge about individuals suffering from acute malnutrition arriving at medical facilities and hospitals under extremely poor health conditions."
UN agencies operating on the ground have warned that conditions in Gaza have become nearly uninhabitable, urging the protection of civilians and ensuring the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, where over two million people face the risk of famine.
Dujarric explained that 87.7 percent of Gaza is under "evacuation orders" or in "evacuation zones," with an estimated 2.1 million people trapped in a fragmented area that lacks almost any services.
He pointed out that more than 1.3 million people in Gaza need shelter and basic goods, noting that harsh weather conditions, high humidity, overcrowding, and the repeated dismantling of tents and plastic coverings exacerbate the already deteriorating situation.
He added that no shelter materials have been allowed into Gaza for more than four months, highlighting the ongoing fuel crisis.
