Albanese: Nazism was the greatest evil, and today there is a state starving millions
SadaNews - The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, accused Israel of killing children and starving millions, confirming that Israel's intention "is to wipe out the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip".
In a comment on the death of a disabled Palestinian due to starvation in Gaza, Albanese stated in a post on the X platform: "Our generation was raised to believe that Nazism was the greatest evil... and today, there is a state (referring to Israel) that deliberately starves millions and shoots at children".
Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, Albanese told Al Jazeera, "There are no words to describe what is happening in Gaza; famine has reached its peak," considering that the international community "is rewarding Israel, and it is impossible to talk about a two-state solution while Israel is committing genocide".
Albanese warned that Gaza "is living a tragic reality and has become a graveyard for children due to the world's neglect," adding that "the siege and restrictions on aid entry contribute to increasing deaths," and called for "an end to the disaster occurring in the Gaza Strip".
She also criticized the United States and Israel, stating, "They are distributing food in a mechanism that relies on killing, thus it is a criminal project, and they face no opposition".
In her remark on the martyrdom of a disabled Palestinian child from starvation in Gaza, Albanese wrote on the X platform, saying, "Our generation was raised to believe that Nazism was the greatest evil, and today there is the state of Israel that deliberately starves millions and kills children".
For his part, the regional spokesperson for UNICEF, Selim Oweis, told Al Jazeera, "Israel rejects many requests to allow aid, leading to what we see now in the Gaza Strip".
Later today, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar officially announced his decision not to extend the stay of the head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs after his office declared that Gaza is facing catastrophic starvation and condemned the use of starvation as a weapon of war.
Israel rejected the renewal of visas for at least three heads of UN agencies in Gaza two days ago.
UN spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, confirmed that the visas for local leaders of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and UNRWA, which supports Palestinians in Gaza, have not been renewed in recent months.
Tom Fletcher, head of humanitarian affairs at the UN, stated to the Security Council on Wednesday that the humanitarian mission of the UN is not limited to providing assistance to needy civilians and reporting what its employees witness, but also includes defending international humanitarian law.
He said, "Each time we report what we see, we face threats of even greater cuts in access to civilians we strive to serve, and there is no place today where the tension between our mission to defend human rights and provide aid is more evident than in Gaza".
Fletcher continued, stating, "Israel does not renew visas, which is a clear response to our work in protecting civilians".
Fletcher described the situation in Gaza as "beyond description," with food running out and Palestinians being shot while searching for food. He said, "Israel, the occupying power in Gaza, is violating its obligations under the Geneva Conventions to provide for the needs of civilians."
It is noteworthy that Israel has prevented UNRWA from operating in its areas, and its General Commissioner, Swiss-Italian Philippe Lazzarini, was barred from entering Gaza.
The UN has identified two other local leaders affected, Jonathan Wital, a South African humanitarian expert working with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and Ajith Sunghai, an international lawyer educated in Britain who works with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
