Child Martyrdom Due to Hunger and Malnutrition in Gaza
SadaNews: A 4-year-old girl died today, Sunday, due to malnutrition and famine in the Gaza Strip.
A medical source at Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah stated that the girl, Razan Abu Zahir (4 years old), died as a result of complications from malnutrition and hunger in the besieged area.
Medical sources reported that hospitals in the Gaza Strip are dealing with hundreds of patients of various ages suffering from acute hunger and malnutrition, as they are in severe stress conditions.
It was noted that there are 17,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition, and they are also treating patients with symptoms of stress and memory loss caused by severe hunger, while hospitals do not have enough medical beds and medications for the vast number of those suffering from acute malnutrition.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) had warned that malnutrition among children under five had doubled between March and June, as a result of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.
It was explained that UNRWA health centers and medical points conducted nearly 74,000 screenings for children to detect malnutrition during this period, identifying approximately 5,500 cases of moderate acute malnutrition and more than 800 cases of severe acute malnutrition.
