UN Commissioner: Israel's Shelling of Church Sheltering Civilians is a War Crime
SadaNews - The spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Thameen Al-Khitan, stated that Israel's attack on a church sheltering Palestinian displaced persons "constitutes a war crime."
Al-Khitan added in a press statement last night that Israel's strike on the "Holy Family" church in Gaza City, which sheltered Palestinian displaced persons, "raises concerns about serious potential violations of international law, especially attacks on places of worship and civilian areas."
He emphasized the necessity of adhering to international humanitarian law, adding that "intentional targeting of civilians and civilian areas constitutes a war crime."
Al-Khitan clarified that the United Nations Human Rights Council continues to examine the details of the incident that targeted a church housing nearly 600 Palestinians, including children and persons with disabilities.
