Death of a New Child.. Gaza Health: Unprecedented Numbers of Malnourished Arriving at Sector Hospitals

SadaNews - The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported on Friday that there are unprecedented numbers of citizens of all ages arriving at emergency departments in a state of extreme fatigue and exhaustion.

The ministry warned in a statement that hundreds of those whose bodies are emaciated will be at risk of certain death due to starvation, surpassing their bodies’ ability to endure.

This comes as the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, Central Gaza Strip, announced the death of the child Sana’a al-Laham (one and a half years old) due to malnutrition.

Medical sources indicated that hospitals in the Gaza Strip are dealing with hundreds of individuals from various ages suffering from acute hunger and malnutrition, as they are in severe states of fatigue.

The sources noted that there are 17,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition, and that they are handling patients with cases of exhaustion and memory loss resulting from acute hunger.

They confirmed that hospitals do not have enough medical beds and medications to accommodate the enormous number of those suffering from acute malnutrition.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) had warned that malnutrition among children under the age of five had doubled between March and June, as a result of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.

It clarified that the health centers and medical points operated by UNRWA conducted nearly 74,000 nutritional assessments for children during this period, identifying approximately 5,500 cases of severe acute malnutrition and more than 800 cases of severe acute malnutrition.
