President Abbas During His Meeting with Tony Blair: Hamas Will Not Rule Gaza the Next Day

SadaNews - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met this evening, Sunday, with former British Prime Minister and former envoy of the Quartet, Tony Blair, at his residence in the Jordanian capital, Amman. During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, as well as the ongoing political and humanitarian situations. President Abbas emphasized the necessity of achieving an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages and prisoners, and ensuring the unhindered delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Abbas stressed that the only viable solution is the complete withdrawal of Israel from Gaza, allowing the State of Palestine to take full responsibility in the territory, with effective Arab and international support, noting that "Hamas will not rule Gaza the next day" and that the movement must hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority and engage in political work by adhering to the Palestinian Liberation Organization's political program, its international program, and international legitimacy, as well as the principles of one system, one law, and one legitimate weapon. The Palestinian President also reiterated the necessity to halt all unilateral actions, primarily settlement expansion, the rejection of annexation, and stopping repeated assaults on Islamic and Christian holy sites. He stressed the importance of launching a serious political process to implement a two-state solution, based on international legitimacy decisions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and through convening an international peace conference in New York. At the end of the meeting, they agreed to continue working and coordinating and to hold meetings among the concerned parties to stop the war and achieve security, stability, and peace for all in the region.
