Netanyahu: Hamas rejected the ceasefire proposal and insists on remaining in Gaza

SadaNews - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Sunday that his country accepted the proposal from U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Whitehead, as well as the version suggested by mediators, indicating that it is Hamas that refuses to reach an agreement for a ceasefire.

Netanyahu mentioned in a video clip posted on his account on the "X" platform: "I returned from an important visit. It was a very successful visit, following a great victory over Iran. There are many opportunities, many possibilities, and many tasks. I am determined to accomplish them all."

Regarding media reports about the Israeli government's rejection of the ceasefire proposal in Gaza, Netanyahu clarified: "Their rhetoric always echoes Hamas propaganda, but they are always mistaken. We accepted the deal, the Whitehead deal, then the version proposed by the mediators. We accepted it, but Hamas is the one that rejected them."

He added: "Hamas wants to remain in Gaza. It wants us to withdraw so that it can rearm itself to be able to attack us time and again. I will not accept that. I will do everything in my power to bring our captives back."

He emphasized: "I meet with the families of the hostages; I understand their position, and I know their suffering. I am determined to bring the prisoners back home and to eliminate Hamas."

He insisted that he is "determined to secure the release of the captives and committed to the other objective of the war in Gaza, which is to eliminate Hamas and ensure that Gaza does not once again pose a threat to Israel. That is what I am doing, and I will not compromise on any of these goals."
