Doha Negotiations: Israel to Present New Maps on Sunday Regarding the Scope of Its Army's Withdrawal
SadaNews - Israel intends to present new maps during the Doha talks scheduled to resume on Sunday, regarding the scope of its army's withdrawal from Gaza during the proposed 60-day ceasefire, after it presented a map that was rejected by Hamas, which threatened the ongoing negotiations.
The new maps that will be presented by Israel will address control over the "Moragh" axis and its surroundings, after intermediaries from Qatar clarified that Hamas would not accept the maps that were provided, which would lead to the collapse of the negotiations, according to Channel 12 in Israel citing an informed source.
Channel 12 reported that the weekend negotiations did not see any rapprochement discussions, while the gap regarding the scope of the army's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip remains.
An Israeli political official stated on Saturday evening that negotiations in the Qatari capital Doha continued today, indicating that the negotiating team is working with the intermediaries from Qatar and Egypt and is in continuous contact with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, according to Channel 12.
He added that "the Israeli team was sent to Doha based on the Qatari proposal that Israel accepted, and it received the necessary mandate for the talks."
The Israeli official regarded that "Hamas rejected the Qatari proposal and raised difficulties with its opposition to the settlement, and the talks are accompanied by a propaganda war aimed at sabotaging the negotiations, providing false information to the people of Gaza, and pressuring the Israeli public."
He noted that "Israel has shown flexibility in the negotiations, while Hamas continues its refusal and takes positions that prevent the intermediaries from reaching an agreement."
The Israeli official stated, "If Hamas had accepted the Qatari proposal, an agreement could have been reached and negotiations could have started for 60 days to end the war according to the objectives of the Israeli war."
Israeli prisoners' families responded to the developments in the Doha negotiations by stating, "The current loss of momentum would be a disastrous failure, as every day the war continues is an achievement for Hamas and a great danger to our abductees and soldiers."
