Al-Shara'a Will Not Participate... A Syrian Diplomat: Direct Meeting with an Israeli Official in Baku
SadaNews - A diplomatic source in Damascus reported on Saturday that a direct meeting will take place between a Syrian official and an Israeli official in Baku on the sidelines of a visit by the Syrian president Ahmad al-Shara'a to Azerbaijan, according to "France Press".
The source, who is familiar with the discussions and preferred to remain anonymous, stated: "There will be a meeting between a Syrian official and an Israeli official on the sidelines of the visit that al-Shara'a is making to Baku," noting that al-Shara'a will not participate in it.
He mentioned that the discussions will focus on "the newly established Israeli military presence in Syria," referring to the areas that Israeli forces have penetrated in southern Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime more than 7 months ago.
On July 3, a Syrian official source considered that talks about a peace agreement with Israel are premature, calling on Tel Aviv to adhere to the disengagement agreement of 1974 and withdraw from Syrian territories.
The "Syrian News" website quoted an official source stating: "Statements regarding the signing of a peace agreement with Israel at this time are premature."
The source added: "Negotiations about new agreements can only be discussed after full compliance with the 1974 disengagement agreement and withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan."
