The Decision of War and Peace is Our Authority.. Aoun: Normalization with Israel is Not an Option
SadaNews - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on Friday that the issue of normalization with Israel is "not an option in current Lebanese foreign policy."
Aoun did not provide any additional comments regarding his country's stance on the issue of normalization amid Israeli and American hints about its potential after the recent war.
Concerning the issue of weapons, Aoun said: "The decision to retain the exclusive control of weapons by the state has been made and there is no going back," emphasizing that the decision of war and peace falls under the authority of the Cabinet.
The Lebanese presidency quoted Aoun during his reception of a delegation from the Arab and International Relations Council as saying: "We emphasize the importance of our unity and the cooperation of various parties with the state to protect the country and confront any conspiracy that is being planned."
He stated: "Peace is a state of no war, and that is what matters to us in Lebanon at the moment."
Aoun also highlighted the role of Speaker of the House Nabih Berri in "contributing to stabilizing the situation and supporting efforts to rebuild the state and achieving the principle of exclusive control of weapons."
He also addressed the relations with Syria, reaffirming Lebanon's commitment to establishing good bilateral relations "while ensuring no interference in the internal affairs of either country."
