Netanyahu Arrives in Washington for Meeting with Trump to Discuss Terms for Ending Gaza War

SadaNews - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in the U.S. capital, Washington, for a meeting with President Donald Trump this evening at the White House, according to Israeli media sources.

Netanyahu - who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for committing genocide in Gaza - told reporters before boarding the plane that the meeting with Trump could help in reaching an agreement (on Gaza), adding, "We want to achieve the deal based on the terms we had agreed upon, and the Israeli negotiating delegation has clear instructions in that regard."

Netanyahu mentioned on Saturday that "the changes that Hamas is seeking to introduce to the initial proposal are unacceptable."

Trump stated on Friday to reporters, "We have already succeeded in bringing out many hostages, but regarding the remaining hostages, a considerable number of them will be released. We expect this to happen this week," considering that there is a "good chance" for reaching an agreement.

Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas began on Sunday evening in Doha, revolving around the "mechanisms of implementation" for a potential agreement on a ceasefire and "prisoner exchange."

According to sources, the potential agreement includes a 60-day ceasefire and the release of 10 prisoners in two batches and the return of bodies in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, with 5 Israeli prisoners to be released on the first day of the agreement and another 5 on the 60th day.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, has been waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, involving killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, disregarding all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop, resulting in over 192,000 Palestinians being killed or injured, most of whom are children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons.
