U.S. Officials: Trump Wants to Agree with Netanyahu on Conditions to End the War in Gaza
SadaNews - President Donald Trump wants to reach an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who traveled to Washington on Sunday evening, regarding the conditions for ending the war in Gaza, according to Israeli reports.
Israeli Channel 12 reported, citing unnamed U.S. officials, that Trump wishes to agree with Netanyahu on the conditions for ending the war in Gaza.
The officials stated: "We are interested in announcing a reached agreement, with a clear declaration that commits the parties."
They added: "After that, it seems that it will take several days to finalize the details; but the goal is to create a commitment regarding the pathway."
U.S. officials also mentioned that Trump wishes to finalize the terms for ending the war in Gaza with Netanyahu during their meeting planned for Monday at the White House, according to the online site "Walla".
The Walla report noted that the so-called "day after" plan, which will determine how to manage Gaza without Hamas control and the security arrangements that will be made to prevent Hamas from re-establishing itself, will be fundamental to any agreement that ends the war. If an agreement is reached regarding the prisoners and a ceasefire, that will be the main axis of negotiations between Israel and Hamas during the 60-day truce. Understandings between the United States and Israel regarding the "day after" could form the basis for these negotiations.
Walla quoted U.S. officials saying that the issue of the "day after" the war in Gaza will be "central to the meeting".
The report indicated that this matter had already been raised in talks held by the Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, at the White House last week, with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and other senior U.S. officials.
High-level U.S. officials, unnamed in the report, stated that Trump wants to hear Netanyahu's positions on this issue and reach understandings.
In the same context, a senior U.S. official mentioned: "We want to reach an agreed framework for what will happen in Gaza the day after the war."
The report noted that Israel has "softened" its stance regarding the issue of the expulsion of senior Hamas leaders from Gaza, and "is ready to accept a symbolic expulsion of some leaders of the military wing".
An Israeli official stated that "there are not many senior Hamas leaders left in Gaza."
This comes as the Israeli negotiating delegation left earlier on Sunday to the Qatari capital Doha to begin a new round of indirect negotiations with Hamas, aiming to reach an agreement on the release of prisoners and a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to Israeli media, the delegation includes the deputy head of the Shin Bet security service known by the letter "M", and the coordinator for the file of prisoners and missing persons, Gal Hirsch, along with the political advisor to the Prime Minister, Ofir Falk, and a senior official from the Mossad.
Reports indicated that a delegation of representatives from the army, the Mossad, and the Shin Bet will also participate in talks at the professional teams level, while Egypt has sent a security delegation to Doha that arrived last Saturday, while the Hamas negotiating delegation is in the Qatari capital.
Moreover, families of Israeli prisoners held in the Gaza Strip demanded the Israeli government in a statement on Sunday that there must be an agreement for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange, given the backdrop of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Doha, and the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump tomorrow.
Estimates in Israel imply that there will not be an announcement in the coming days regarding reaching a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement, claiming that there are "significant disagreements" between Israel and Hamas over the proposed offer, which Israel has described as "unacceptable".
