UNRWA: Displaced Persons Being Killed While Searching for Food in Gaza, New Aid Mechanism has Turned into a 'Field of Death'

SadaNews - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) warned today, Tuesday, about the continued civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip while they attempt to obtain food, amidst catastrophic humanitarian conditions endured by the besieged population for months.

UNRWA stated in a statement that civilians, especially displaced persons, are being killed while searching for food at aid distribution points, which have turned into dangerous places that threaten their lives instead of providing them with safety and the minimum necessities of life.

The agency strongly criticized the new Israeli-American mechanism for bringing aid into the Gaza Strip, considering it has turned into a "field of death," where the vulnerable are directly targeted while standing in long lines to obtain food.

UNRWA affirmed that the United Nations, including its humanitarian agencies led by UNRWA, remains the only entity capable of delivering humanitarian assistance safely and efficiently to those in need, stressing the necessity of returning to reliable humanitarian mechanisms that ensure the protection and safety of civilians.

The agency renewed its call for an end to the repeated targeting of civilians in Gaza, and for the safe and unobstructed access of humanitarian aid without political conditions, warning that the continuation of this policy deepens the humanitarian disaster experienced by more than two million citizens in the besieged enclave.
