Trump Calls on Lynsey Graham's Sister to Run for Senate
SadaNews - On Friday night to Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he requested Darleen Graham, the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, to run in the special Republican primary for the Senate seat from South Carolina, scheduled for August 11.
He confirmed in a post on the "Truth Social" platform: "I hope Darleen takes this step; no one is better than her to honor the legacy of her dear brother Lindsey."
He added: "Run, Darleen, run," affirming that she would have his support and endorsement.
Lindsey Graham, who transitioned from being one of Trump's most vocal critics to one of his strongest allies within the Republican Party, passed away last Saturday due to a heart attack caused by arteriosclerosis, according to his office.
The Republican Governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, appointed Darleen Graham on Monday to fill the vacant Senate seat until the first week of January next year.
Currently, Republicans hold a narrow majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives ahead of the upcoming U.S. midterm elections scheduled for November.
A memorial service for the late senator is set to take place on July 28 in Washington, to be continued on July 29 in South Carolina.
