Ukraine Expands Its Offensive and Strikes Moscow with 370 Drones
SadaNews - Russia witnessed one of the largest waves of drone attacks since the outbreak of the war this Saturday morning, after Moscow announced that Ukraine launched over 370 drones towards the capital region during the night, while another attack resulted in the death of seven people in a logistics center belonging to one of the largest Russian e-commerce companies.
Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin stated that air defense systems intercepted "most" of the drones before they reached the capital, explaining that 64 drones were destroyed as they approached Moscow, while the rest were shot down at greater distances, with no significant damage reported inside the city.
This attack marks one of the largest aerial assaults targeting the Russian capital since the war began and reflects the increased capability of Ukraine to launch long-range strikes using large swarms of drones.
In a separate attack, Tambov Region Governor Yevgeny Pervychov announced the death of seven workers and injuries to 24 others due to an attack on a logistics center belonging to Wildberries in the town of Kotovsk in western Russia, which is the largest Russian e-commerce and logistics company.
The Russian official described the attack as targeting the night shift workers at the center, while there was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian side regarding the operation.
The attack reflects a shift in the nature of Ukrainian strikes, which are increasingly targeting logistical and economic infrastructure within Russia, rather than just air bases or ammunition warehouses and oil refineries.
Analysts believe that targeting transport and storage centers may disrupt both civil and military supply chains, increasing economic pressure on Moscow, especially as the attacks expand to areas far from the frontline.
Since 2024, Ukraine has increasingly relied on long-range drones to compensate for the gap in air capabilities with Russia, while Moscow, in turn, has intensified its use of drones and missiles to target cities and Ukrainian infrastructure.
The reciprocal drone attacks have become a hallmark of the war, with the number of drones used in each wave of attack rising to hundreds, in an attempt to confuse and fatigue air defenses.
The recent attack comes at a time when Russia continues its military operations on several fronts within Ukraine, while Kyiv seeks to expand pressure on the Russian depth by targeting facilities it deems supportive of the war effort, in an attempt to raise the cost of war on Moscow and force it to distribute its defensive capabilities over a wider geographical area.
