With Stones and Death Slogans.. Iranians Attack Bezecjian and Araqchi at Khamenei's Funeral
SadaNews - The New York Times reported that Iranian President Masoud Bezecjian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi were attacked by hardliners opposing negotiations with the United States during the funeral of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei this week, according to SadaNews translation. The newspaper noted that Bezecjian faced harassment on Monday from a crowd of hardliners who chanted against him slogans such as: "Death to the Bastard."
Videos shared on social media and by his office showed the Iranian president in a state of confusion, as his security personnel intervened to pull him away from the crowd and secure his exit.
The newspaper also reported that foreign minister Abbas Araqchi, who is associated with the more moderate faction, was pelted with stones during the funeral proceedings and had to flee through one of the alleys.
Circulating videos on social media showed the attackers waving flags, hurling insults at him, and calling for his death.
