Bloomberg: Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz experiences near-total halt
SadaNews - Shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has nearly come to a complete halt, according to vessel tracking data published by Bloomberg, with the few movements limited to a route near the northern side of the strait that is under strict Iranian oversight and procedures.
Vessel traffic through the southern route opposite the Omani coast has dropped to extremely low levels, as many ships have altered their routes due to increasing security concerns in the region.
This comes as the Iranian Revolutionary Guard tightens its oversight on maritime passages, asserting that the use of any route outside the arrangements specified by Tehran is not permitted.
Tensions in the Strait have escalated following exchanges of attacks between Iran and the United States, with Tehran threatening that the reopening of Hormuz will be according to "Iranian arrangements" and not under American pressure.
