A Pistol and Its Ammunition.. Erdoğan's Gift to the Leaders Participating in the NATO Summit
SadaNews - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gifted the leaders participating in the NATO summit a pistol with its ammunition on Wednesday.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer clarified in a conversation with British journalists on the flight back from Ankara to his country that the Turkish president provided each leader with an inscribed pistol bearing their name, along with a box of ammunition.
Erdoğan accompanied his gift with a note exempting these weapons from export restrictions.
However, Starmer noted that he had to leave the pistol in Turkey, as bringing it into the United Kingdom would have been against the law.
A spokesperson for the German government also stated on Wednesday that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz received a similar pistol with its ammunition.
The spokesperson explained to the German news agency (dpa) that the pistol received by Merz was delivered to the German embassy in Ankara, in preparation for completing the legal import procedures and including it in the official gift collection.
Two officials from the European Union also confirmed that Erdoğan presented the same pistol to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council Antonio Costa.
