In the hours leading up to the football match between Morocco and Canada, one of the three host countries of the World Cup, cafes and squares in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Hebron, Gaza, and several other Palestinian cities were filled with families and youth, Moroccan flags flying alongside Palestinian ones, while chants of support for the "Lions of the Atlas" rose with every attack and goal opportunity, reflecting the deep bonds between the two brotherly peoples.
In the city of Ramallah, an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation enveloped a public square where thousands of citizens watched the match on a giant screen, attended by the President of the Palestinian Football Association, Major General Jibril Rajoub, and members of the Moroccan embassy accredited to Palestine.
As the match progressed, public interaction increased, with chants for Morocco mixing with phrases affirming the strength of brotherly relations, portraying the loyalty of Palestinians to Morocco's supportive stances regarding the Palestinian cause, and to the Moroccan fans who consistently raise the Palestinian flag and chant for Palestine in various sporting events.
The President of the Palestinian Football Association, Major General Jibril Rajoub, stated that the victory of the Moroccan team is a victory for all Arabs, expressing his congratulations to the Kingdom of Morocco’s leadership and people, affirming that Palestinians share their Moroccan brothers' joy with this achievement, and look forward to the "Lions of the Atlas" continuing their journey towards victory.
He added that the Moroccan national team has succeeded in overcoming various challenges and proven its ability to compete at the highest levels, considering that their achievements represent Arab will and the legitimate ambition to reach the winner's podium.
Rajoub noted that Palestinians in various parts of the world, including the Gaza Strip despite its difficult conditions, followed the match with great interest and participated in celebrating the victory, stemming from the deep Arab, Islamic, and humanitarian belonging that unites the two peoples.
For his part, the Mayor of Al-Bireh, Engineer Munif Tareesh, dedicated this victory to the Moroccan people everywhere, asserting that this win is a source of pride for all Arabs, lifting the nation's head high, and expressing his hope that the Moroccan team continues its journey until winning the World Cup title.
Tareesh praised the enthusiastic atmosphere witnessed in Al-Bireh during the match, describing it as exceptional and stating that he has never seen such a large number of citizens gather to watch a football match, nor the extent of joy that filled the city, extending a salute to the Moroccan team for the achievement that brought joy to the hearts of Palestinians and Arabs.
In Jerusalem, the Moroccan community organized an evening to watch the match at the Al-Quds Club to support the Moroccan team, with participation from official figures, grassroots representatives, and members of Jerusalem institutions.
On this occasion, the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, Ashraf Al-Aur, stated that the well-deserved victory of the Moroccan team brought joy to the hearts of Jerusalemites, affirming that Jerusalem is accustomed to celebrating Moroccan achievements, and extending congratulations to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Crown Prince, and the Moroccan people on this occasion, expressing hope for the Moroccan team to continue its successful journey in the championship.
For his part, the President of the African Community Association in Jerusalem, Nasser Qous, stated that this achievement is a source of pride for both the Moroccan and Palestinian peoples, pointing out that this gathering reflects the deep brotherly relations linking Jerusalem to the Kingdom of Morocco, and appreciating the efforts of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Ash-Sharif Agency, the Al-Quds Club, and the Moroccan Association in organizing this event.
Moreover, Jamal Al-Maghribi, custodian of the Moroccan waqf in Jerusalem, affirmed that the victory of the Moroccan team represents great joy for members of the Moroccan community and Jerusalemites, emphasizing that Moroccans in Jerusalem continue their historical role in maintaining their connection to the holy city and working to enhance Morocco's presence and elevate its name high.
The President of Hilal Al-Quds Club, Diaa Shweiki, confirmed that the Moroccan achievement brought smiles to the faces of Palestinians, especially those in Jerusalem, who have deep-rooted historical relations with Morocco, noting that the celebratory atmosphere relieved the burden of the difficult conditions faced by Jerusalemites, extending congratulations to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan government, and the Moroccan people, wishing the Moroccan team continued success in the championship.
After the final whistle, hundreds of citizens took to the streets waving both Palestinian and Moroccan flags, honking their car horns, and paraded through the city's streets in a celebratory scene reflecting the magnitude of Palestinian joy over the Moroccan achievement, as if the victory had been achieved in the name of the two brotherly peoples.
Fan Laith Al-Barghouti stated that the Moroccan team’s qualification provided Palestinians with rare moments of joy, confirming that Palestinians stand by Arab teams, and that the achievement of the "Lions of the Atlas" is an achievement for all Arabs, wishing Morocco continued success on the path towards the World Cup title.
Another fan of the Moroccan team, Mohamed Al-Tamimi, affirmed that the Moroccan team delivered a world-class performance deserving of praise, expressing hope to see it crowned as world champions, and sending a message of love from the Palestinian people to the Moroccan people.
