SadaNews - Footage documenting the killing of a woman by officers from the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Florida has sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms.

The videos showed the use of deadly force against the woman who was armed with a knife, raising criticism regarding the absence of de-escalation tactics and the ease of gunfire.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office published the video clip via its official account on X, clarifying that the release of the video is part of their transparency policy to provide the full context to the public without relying on partial snippets.

According to the accompanying statement, police received a report on June 3 indicating that a woman was screaming outside a house on Tivoli Street. When officers arrived and knocked on the door, the woman emerged holding a kitchen knife, prompting the officers to retreat to the street while ordering her to drop the weapon. However, the woman continued to advance while screaming threats to end their lives.

At that moment, three officers fired their service weapons, resulting in the woman succumbing to her injuries at the hospital despite receiving medical attention. The office noted that the involved officers were placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of an investigation by the law enforcement agency, which will later present the case to the district attorney's office.

The body camera footage spread rapidly, accompanied by comments condemning the police's actions, describing them as failing to attempt to control the situation through peaceful means.

Others criticized the actions of the officers, describing them as lazy, emphasizing that the woman lost her life because shooting was seen as easier than making an effort to control her. Some individuals referenced an old saying advising against bringing a knife to a gunfight, clarifying that three officers could have incapacitated the woman using a Taser or aiming for her leg, but they chose to empty their guns into her body.

Other users directed harsh criticism towards American society, considering that the United States still suffers from deep crises in civic behavior, while bloggers made a stark comparison, illustrating that a group of police officers who spent years in training failed to disarm a housewife without ending her life, whereas any civilian would face charges of excessive force if they shot at someone wielding a kitchen knife.

Observers agreed that the situation did not warrant the use of live ammunition, questioning the reason behind ignoring the Taser and the effectiveness of the training received by police officers if the outcome is to resort to heavy gunfire merely for wielding a knife without an immediate attack or imminent threat.
