Sources: 4 Goals Behind Netanyahu's Urgency to Meet Trump

SadaNews - The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to arrange a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as soon as possible, preferably this week immediately after Trump returns from the NATO summit in Turkey. However, the U.S. president's commitment to the summit makes the timing of the meeting uncertain, which is why efforts are being made to hold it at the White House immediately afterward, while being prepared for the possibility of postponing it to next week.

According to Israeli sources cited by "Yedioth Ahronoth," Netanyahu aims to achieve several objectives from the meeting, the most prominent being to restore trust that has been damaged between him and Trump following the war with Iran, to present intelligence information before the resumption of U.S.-Iran negotiations, and to discuss the normalization process with Arab countries, in addition to convincing Washington not to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey.

If the meeting takes place, it will be the eighth between the two men since Trump returned to the White House. The last meeting was on February 11 in the White House situation room, which Israeli reports describe as pivotal, as Netanyahu presented Israel's plans regarding the war on Iran, including scenarios related to overthrowing the Iranian regime. Reports claimed that U.S. officials considered these plans immature and unrealistic.

According to the report, one of Netanyahu's main motives for hastening the meeting is to try to rebuild trust with Trump, after circles close to the U.S. president began to consider that Netanyahu's assessments regarding the war on Iran were incorrect, and some believe that Trump holds Netanyahu responsible for the war's failure.

In contrast, Israel affirms that the plans presented by Mossad did not talk about overthrowing the regime within days or during the war, but rather during the following months, contingent upon implementing a series of measures that, it claims, Washington has not pursued, primarily the use of Kurdish opposition to attempt to overthrow the Iranian regime.

Israel also seeks to present its intelligence information before the resumption of negotiations between Washington and Tehran regarding a permanent agreement.

According to the report, Israel wants the United States to adhere to several demands, the most prominent being: removing Iran's enriched uranium stockpile, preventing Iran from any right to enrich uranium, including the ballistic missile program in the agreement, and stipulating the cessation of Iran's support for allied factions in the region as part of the agreement.

The report notes that Israel believes Washington has shown flexibility on some of these issues, which Tel Aviv is trying to amend before negotiations begin.

Netanyahu is also expected to discuss the Lebanese file, in an attempt to alleviate U.S. pressure calling for Israel's withdrawal from the security strip.

As for the Gaza Strip, he seeks to emphasize that any reconstruction process must be preceded by a disarmament process of the sector and dismantling the Hamas movement, while the report sees that Washington does not currently support a wide-scale Israeli military operation to achieve this goal, and continues its communications with the movement.

Netanyahu also intends to discuss opportunities to expand normalization agreements with Arab countries, in addition to negotiating a new security memorandum of understanding with the United States.

According to the report, security relations between the two countries may shift from a model of direct U.S. military aid to a model reliant on partnership and cooperation in technology and defense industries.

It is also expected that both sides will discuss the Syrian file, amid U.S. desire to revive negotiations between Damascus and Tel Aviv.

In addition, Netanyahu will try to persuade Trump not to proceed with the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Ankara and Israel.
