Palestine Participates in the Event Organized by the General Secretariat of the Organization on the Occasion of World Environment Day 2026

SadaNews - Palestine participated, through its permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ambassador Hadi Shibli, in the event organized by the organization's General Secretariat to mark World Environment Day 2026, which is celebrated annually on June 5, under the slogan "Climate Action", with the presence of Senior Advisor Naseem Al-Za'anin and Second Secretary Athar Omeri.

The Palestinian mission emphasized, during this occasion, the importance of this global day as a platform to enhance international awareness of the increasing environmental challenges, foremost of which is climate change, which has become a real threat to environmental, economic, and social security alike.

It was also emphasized that Palestine, despite the exceptional challenges it faces, is committed to contributing to international efforts aimed at protecting the environment and enhancing climate action, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and principles of environmental justice. The necessity of intensifying international cooperation, transferring technology, and supporting developing countries to enable them to adapt to the impacts of climate change and mitigate its repercussions was also highlighted.

The mission also stressed that the environment in Palestine holds double importance due to the severe repercussions it faces as a result of the Israeli occupation, which exacerbates environmental crises through the destruction of agricultural lands, uprooting of trees, polluting water and soil sources, and obstructing access to natural resources, in addition to the effects of the blockade and repeated assaults, which negatively impact the health of the Palestinian people, their food security, and their ability to endure and achieve sustainable development.

This participation comes as part of Palestine's keen interest in positively engaging with international and regional initiatives related to the environment and continuing its active role within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in supporting policies and measures aimed at protecting the environment and preserving the planet.
