A Ministerial and Diplomatic Delegation Briefs International Donors on the Cultural, Touristic, and Economic Components in Salfit
SadaNews - A ministerial and diplomatic delegation, including the Ministers of Culture Imad Hamdan and Tourism Hani Al-Haik, UNESCO representative in Palestine Karim Al-Hindali, members of the European diplomatic corps, members of the "Laks" organization, and representatives from Palestinian associations in the cultural and tourism sectors, visited Salfit Governorate to brief international donors and development partners on the cultural, touristic, and economic potentials of the governorate, particularly in the areas of heritage preservation, sustainable tourism, and local economic development.
The delegation was greeted by Salfit Governor Mustafa Taqtaqa, Mayor Diaa Bani Nimer, Secretary of the Fatah Movement and member of the Revolutionary Council Abd Al-Sattar Awad, the head of the Chamber of Commerce, security force leaders, and institution directors.
The efforts underway in heritage preservation, rural tourism development, enhancing community resilience, and encouraging private sector investments were showcased, alongside the challenges facing local communities and opportunities for support and future engagement from donors.
The ministerial delegation, local officials, international donors, and private sector representatives met with Salfit Governor Mustafa Taqtaqa and Mayor Diaa Bani Nimer at the governorate's headquarters, where the meeting included presentations on the political, economic, and developmental context, including challenges related to settlement expansion, movement and mobility restrictions, and their impacts on heritage and tourism development.
The governor invited the delegation, investors, and development funds to explore investment opportunities in the cultural and tourism sectors of the governorate, emphasizing readiness to cooperate with ministries and relevant authorities to provide necessary facilitation and create a supportive environment to ensure the success of these initiatives, noting that investment in Salfit Governorate is not merely economic but also an investment in development, stability, and peace.
Minister Hamdan stated: "This tour aims to address the key cultural, political, and economic challenges and the current reality in Salfit Governorate, stressing that the Ministry of Culture is striving to enhance partnership with international donors and organizations and to closely inform them about the cultural, touristic, and economic components and potentials of the governorate and support initiatives to strengthen the resilience of citizens.
For his part, Minister Al-Haik emphasized the need to complete projects aimed at achieving sustainable development in this governorate, to stabilize people in their lands, and create job opportunities to boost the local economy, as this governorate is rich in touristic, cultural, and economic components that should be supported and enhanced.
Bani Nimer stated: "We look forward to this visit being a practical station to strengthen cooperation and partnership, translating interest into real projects that contribute to the protection of cultural and historical heritage, developing the tourism sector, and enhancing the local economy, which positively reflects on the lives and resilience of citizens."
During the visit, the ministerial delegation toured the old town of Salfit and the historic Beit Iffana, where they were presented with a project proposal for an archaeological and folkloric museum and discussed initiatives for heritage preservation and restoration.
The ministerial delegation also visited Yasuf village, where a presentation on its cultural needs and initiatives regarding rural tourism was made, including restored springs, traditional gardens, reconstructed heritage buildings, and sustainable community development projects.
The tour concluded with a discussion session on the role of private sector investments in culture and tourism to support local economic development, provide job opportunities, and enhance the resilience of the local community, where key observations and recommendations were presented and discussed with donors.
