Israeli Authorities Refuse to Hand Over the Body of Prisoner Imad Sarhan to His Family
SadaNews - The family of prisoner Imad Sarhan (47 years old) reported today, Tuesday, that the Israeli authorities are still refusing to hand over his body for burial in the city of Lod, in accordance with his will to be laid to rest alongside his mother.
Mohammad Sarhan, the brother of prisoner Imad Sarhan, stated that the family has approached the "Adalah" center to initiate a legal and humanitarian process aiming to recover the body, amid the ongoing refusal to hand it over without announcing additional details regarding the reasons for the decision.
The Israeli authorities had informed the Sarhan family of his death inside Gilboa prison after he suffered a heart attack, without providing detailed information about the circumstances of his death or his health condition prior to that.
It is noteworthy that Sarhan, a resident of the Wadi Nisnas neighborhood in Haifa, was arrested in October 2001 and underwent interrogations lasting over two months, before being sentenced to life imprisonment plus ten years. He spent more than 24 years in Israeli prisons, including long periods of solitary confinement.
