The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates: The Report of the International Commission of Inquiry Confirms the Colonial Nature of the Israeli Occupation
SadaNews - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the report issued by the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and in Israel, presented to the Human Rights Council in its current session in Geneva, considering it a highly important UN document that provides comprehensive documentation and legal analysis of the serious and systematic violations and crimes committed by the Israeli occupation authorities and settler militias against the Palestinian people across all its segments without discrimination.
The ministry stated in a statement that it views with great significance the committee's conclusion that settler terrorism is an integral part of the colonial settlement occupation system, and not merely isolated individual acts. It emphasized that these practices are directly aimed at forcibly displacing the Palestinian people, seizing their lands and properties, and undermining their inalienable right to self-determination. The report also confirms the continued systematic impunity and the failure of the occupation authorities to hold perpetrators of crimes and violations against Palestinians accountable, reflecting a deep-seated structural dysfunction in what is called the "justice and law enforcement system" under the occupation government.
The ministry stressed that the findings in the report regarding the crimes and violations committed against the Palestinian people, which have been documented in numerous reports issued by UN bodies and mechanisms—including the crime of genocide, persecution, forced displacement, and crimes against humanity—require urgent and effective international action to ensure international protection for the Palestinian people and to hold all those responsible for committing them accountable, whether they are part of the occupation government, the military, or members of what is called the "Israeli Knesset", as they are all tools of the Israeli occupation.
The ministry appreciated the report's inclusion of clear recommendations that call on the Israeli occupation government to end its illegal occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory, completely halt settlement activities, remove settlement outposts, provide protection for the Palestinian people from settler terrorism, and ensure accountability for the crimes and violations committed against them. It also welcomed the committee's call for member states to comply with their international legal obligations, cooperate with international courts, and refrain from any form of support or assistance that contributes to the continuation of the Israeli occupation and illegal settlement or fuels violations of international law. This includes imposing the necessary measures to stop colonial settlements, boycotting the occupation government and its members, holding international crime perpetrators accountable, and stopping the supply of tools and weapons that enable the occupation to continue its grave violations against the Palestinian people. The ministry calls on the UN and its specialized bodies to continue their monitoring, investigation, and documentation efforts, ensure the implementation of the committee's recommendations and relevant international accountability mechanisms, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people until the Israeli occupation is ended and the Palestinian people can exercise their inalienable right to self-determination, independence, and freedom.
