U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding Signed Electronically
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf signed a memorandum of understanding between the two countries electronically, which states the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the blockade on Tehran, according to what Reuters reported.
A senior White House official stated that there has been a significant and noticeable increase in maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the coming period will determine whether the current agreements with Iran will turn into a formal agreement. He emphasized that the negotiations are a mutual and ongoing process, and the U.S. administration will work diligently and persistently to push them forward in the upcoming phase.
Earlier, the Iranian Supreme National Security Council announced reaching the final version of a memorandum of understanding with the United States after negotiations described as "difficult and pressured," lasting several months.
U.S. President Donald Trump also confirmed that the agreement with Iran has been fully accomplished, indicating that it will allow the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of what he termed the "U.S. maritime blockade."
The Iranian Supreme National Security Council considered that Tehran "has achieved superiority over the American Zionist enemy," explaining that this development came following what he described as the "guidance" of the Iranian leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, with popular support and the efforts of the Iranian armed forces.
The council added that the agreement includes the cessation of war and military operations on various fronts, including Lebanon, to take effect immediately and permanently. It also indicated the urgent complete lifting of the maritime blockade imposed on Iran.
According to the statement, the agreement is set to be officially signed next Friday, with final negotiations to continue later after the other party commits to fulfilling its obligations contained in the memorandum of understanding. The council also thanked Pakistan and Qatar for their efforts in facilitating reaching this agreement.
For his part, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced late Sunday night to Monday that the United States and Iran have reached a peace agreement, indicating an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
