President Abbas Discusses Latest Developments with His Indonesian Counterpart
SadaNews - A phone call took place between President Mahmoud Abbas and the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, during which they discussed the latest developments regarding the Palestinian issue, as well as several regional and international matters.
President Abbas congratulated the Indonesian president on the occasion of the new Hijri year, expressing his great appreciation for the ongoing support that Indonesia provides to the Palestinian people and valuing Indonesia's steadfast and brotherly positions that support the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people, which hold a special place in the hearts of the Indonesian people.
President Abbas informed his Indonesian counterpart about the current situation, warning of the dangers of continued Israeli assaults on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, foremost among them the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the importance of preserving the historical and legal status of these sacred places, while warning against the ongoing aggression and siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.
He indicated that despite accepting President Trump’s plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803 to solidify the ceasefire in Gaza, the occupation continues its aggression against our people, stressing the severity of the humanitarian conditions faced by the Palestinians, and calling for urgent efforts to rebuild what the occupation has destroyed.
The President also addressed the escalation of settlement activities and settler terrorism in the West Bank, and Israel's continued strangulation of the Palestinian economy by withholding Palestinian tax revenues, which have exceeded 5 billion dollars, a situation that threatens to exacerbate the difficult conditions faced by the State of Palestine.
President Abbas affirmed the commitment to advancing the comprehensive national reform program and strengthening the democratic path, pointing to the achievements made in conducting union and local council elections, as well as Fatah movement elections, with parliamentary elections scheduled for November, followed by presidential elections next year.
He appreciated the ongoing Indonesian support to enhance the status of the State of Palestine and uphold its rights according to international legitimacy resolutions.
For his part, the Indonesian president reiterated his country's firm position in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause, confirming Indonesia's continued support for efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution and achieving a just peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
