11-Year Prison Sentence for a Young Man from Mas'ada After Being Convicted of Spying for Iran
SadaNews - The Central Court in Nazareth issued a ruling today, Tuesday, sentencing a young man named Tahrir Safadi from the town of Mas'ada in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights to 11 years in prison after being convicted of espionage for allegedly "collecting and transferring security information related to the Israeli army to a party in Syria linked to elements working for Iran."
According to the court's decision, "Safadi established contact with Hossam Zaidan, a Syrian citizen and correspondent for the 'Al-Alam' network, and continued to provide him with security information despite his suspicions regarding his connections with Syrian and Iranian security agencies. The information he provided included images of tanks, movements of military forces, and locations where missiles landed during the war."
The Israeli prosecutor's office stated during the sentencing discussions that "the case involves severe dangers and affects state security," demanding the imposition of a "deterrent penalty." It also noted a "rise in the number of similar cases since October 7, 2023."
In the details of the ruling, the court emphasized that "the actions attributed to the accused were committed during a multi-front war," considering that "transmitting information related to military forces' locations and missile landings exacerbates the severity of the offenses and increases the potential damages resulting from them."
In addition to the actual prison term of 11 years, the court imposed a 24-month suspended sentence on Safadi, along with a financial penalty of 10,000 shekels.
