Iran Prepares for a Grand Funeral for Its Late Leader Ali Khamenei

SadaNews - The Iranian authorities are preparing to hold a grand funeral for Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated during the initial strikes of the American-Israeli attack on Iran, after a prolonged delay due to the war.

While no date has been set for the funeral, Iranian state television quoted Mohsen Mahmoodi, the head of the Islamic Promotion Coordination Council in Tehran, saying that "a special headquarters has been formed to prepare for the funeral ceremonies, and several entities are currently working on planning and making the necessary arrangements," according to the "French Press Agency".

Khamenei led Iran for more than three decades and was assassinated during the first strikes of the attack on Iran on February 28. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, succeeded him, although he was injured in the strikes and has not made any public appearances since taking office.

In April, thousands of Iranians commemorated the fortieth day since the passing of the former leader, but the official funeral that had been announced earlier did not take place due to the war.

The television quoted Mahmoodi as saying that "several organizations are working to create the necessary conditions so that, upon the official announcement, major ceremonial proceedings can take place," with expectations of a "massive participation".
