After Recent Events.. Expect a Decisive Decision from Trump in Days
SadaNews - American officials have suggested that President Donald Trump may authorize a military strike against Iran "within days" after the latter attacked American ships in the Strait of Hormuz and other targets in the UAE on Monday.
According to a report by the U.S. newspaper "The Wall Street Journal", Trump has been hesitant for several days between punishing Iran for not abandoning its nuclear program and at the same time avoiding a serious escalation that could entangle the United States further in war.
On Monday, Iran attacked American military and commercial ships and launched new strikes on the UAE, following the initiation of Trump’s plan to restore shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
After the events of Monday, Trump had no options left but to decide whether to issue orders for a new round of strikes on Iran or to ignore its provocations and proceed with his diplomatic initiative, alongside the plan to open the strait, according to "The Wall Street Journal".
However, pressure has increased on the American president from his political allies to issue orders for new strikes as a quick response to Iran.
Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina and a proponent of U.S. intervention in Iran, stated that Iran "has categorically violated the ceasefire" and therefore Trump should respond with an attack that is "large, strong, painful, and short" as he put it.
Graham continued, "The actions taken today (Monday) do not align with a regime that seeks a diplomatic solution".
Trump announced a press conference to be held on Tuesday for senior officials from the Department of Defense (Pentagon), leaving it to Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Keen to determine the next steps for the administration.
Some American and foreign officials believe that Trump "is likely to authorize a military response against Iran within days", although analysts noted his clear discomfort regarding launching new airstrikes.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly stated that Trump keeps all options open in his pursuit of a settlement with Iran.
Kelly added, "The president has all the winning cards, while negotiators continue to work to ensure that Iran does not possess a nuclear weapon".
