Trump: Iran Agreed to Everything We Want on the Nuclear File and It’s Ridiculous to Continue Supporting NATO

SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump stated late Thursday to Friday that he has been leading efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear arsenal for four months, asserting that Tehran has "agreed to everything we want," following the conclusion of U.S.-Iranian technical talks held over the past two days in Doha.

Trump added in an interview with CNBC that what happened with Iran is a campaign for disarmament and not a war in the traditional sense.

He also clarified that Iran will use its frozen funds to buy corn, wheat, and other goods from the United States.

He continued, "The U.S. blockade on the Strait of Hormuz has not been breached," adding, "Not a single ship has been able to reach Iranian ports during the naval blockade."

This comes after Iran and the United States concluded a new round of indirect talks in Doha, as announced by intermediaries on Thursday, as part of diplomatic efforts to ease tensions after strikes exchanged by both sides.

Washington and Tehran have been engaged in negotiations since mid-June, which are set to last 60 days and are renewable, under a memorandum of understanding they signed on June 17, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, aimed at ending the war in the Middle East and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

However, the memorandum, consisting of 14 points, also established a timetable for talks aimed at finally ending the war and resolving issues such as arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz, funding for the reconstruction of Iran, and the future of the Iranian nuclear program.

In another context, Trump renewed his criticism of NATO, publishing statements showing the extent of U.S. spending compared to other members of the alliance.

He wrote in a post on his "Truth Social" platform on Friday, "It is unreasonable for the United States to continue following this one-sided approach when the relationship lacks reciprocity."

He concluded by saying: "They did not stand by our side."

This comes after Trump also attacked the defense alliance yesterday, Thursday, asserting that his country spends more money on NATO than any other country, by a vast margin, to protect it, without reaping any benefits from it, in his words.

He explained that America has spent $999 billion, while the United Kingdom spent $90.5 billion, France $66.5 billion, Italy $48.8 billion, and Poland $44.3 billion. Other countries, including Germany, spent much smaller amounts.
