Iran: Washington Must Change Its Behavior If It Wants to Achieve a Breakthrough
SadaNews - Awaiting an official response from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran's amended proposal to end the war, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, confirmed that Tehran remains determined to continue on the path of diplomacy.
He also stated in remarks today, Sunday, that everything depends on the United States, as reported by Iranian media.
He opined that "if the Americans seek to achieve a breakthrough in the negotiations, they must change their behavior and policies," as he expressed.
Pakistan’s Mediation Ongoing
Moreover, he emphasized that Pakistan's mediation in the negotiations with the United States is still ongoing. He confirmed that Tehran has no decision to change the mediating party.
These statements came as Pakistan continues its efforts since the beginning of last month (April) to bridge the viewpoints between the two sides and narrow the gaps, in a mission that still faces many challenges.
In the first week of April (2026), the first round of direct U.S.-Iranian negotiations was held in Islamabad, lasting over 19 hours, but did not result in an agreement between the two parties.
This prompted Trump, despite the ceasefire agreement that began on the eighth of the same month at that time, to impose a suffocating maritime blockade on Iranian ports starting from April 13, which is still ongoing, in order to increase pressure on Tehran.
Meanwhile, the Iranian negotiating delegation presented a new proposal to the U.S. side via Pakistan last Thursday, which called for stopping the war first and then lifting the U.S. maritime blockade and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which has been practically closed due to Iranian threats since the first day of the war's outbreak on February 28. However, the Iranians proposed delaying discussions on the nuclear file until after agreeing on these issues, in a move that may not satisfy U.S. demands.
