AI Program... Predicts Your Next Promotion

SadaNews - Promoting the wrong person is a costly matter, and it happens frequently, with the failure rate of appointed executives ranging between 30 and 50 percent during their first year and a half, as Sarah Brighill wrote (*).

An Intelligent Platform for Selecting Future Leaders

The company "Workhuman," a platform for employee management, has developed a new AI tool called "Future Leaders" to help improve promotion decisions.

Identifying High-Potential Employees

This tool, announced by the company yesterday, "can identify high-potential employees who are likely to become senior leaders three to five years before the promotion."

The CEO, Eric Mosley, spoke to an audience at the company’s annual conference in Orlando, Florida, about the Future Leaders program, stating that the company tested it using its data in 2020, and the tool was able to predict promotions with an accuracy rate of nearly 80 percent.

Analyzing Reasons for Confidence

He noted that the "Future Leaders" system can analyze the reasons employees receive promotions. For example, when asked why someone was promoted to the position of vice president, the system provided a detailed explanation, indicating that the responsibilities assigned to that person reflect their appreciation and a high level of trust from the system. Mosley clarified that AI coined this term as "strategic trust." He added that this realization made him understand that strategic trust "is a major indicator of someone's future promotion."

Extracting Leader Patterns

Since the “Future Leaders” system is trained on a massive dataset of leaders, it can extract the patterns that distinguish true leaders and subsequently identify employees who align with those patterns and recommend them. Mosley indicated that this tool could be used to ensure that companies do not miss out on talented employees deserving of promotion.

Employing Smart Tools in Assessment

Many companies are already beginning to implement AI to assist with promotions. According to a survey conducted by "Resume Builder" in 2025, 77 percent of managers use AI to assist in promotion decisions. Tools like "Future Leaders" go beyond that, allowing managers to "foresee" the future.

Human Judgment Remains Important

However, even with an accuracy of 80 percent, the final decision on who gets promoted may still hinge on factors that no AI tool can determine. Mosley noted that it remains important to apply human judgment, and ultimately, AI is only as effective as the human directing it.
